Cel Shading is an artistic style that stands out for its defined contours, flat colors and strong shading, emulating the appearance of an illustration or cartoon. David Basilisk explains in detail how to apply shadow areas with darker colors in a sharp and defined manner, creating stark contrast and a distinctive appearance.

The first step is to prepare the model and select the colors. David suggests choosing a vibrant color palette and defining areas of shadow and light to create a unique contrast. The choice of colors plays a crucial role in capturing the essence of Cel Shading. In our case, we can use the color schemes most used in the animation series on which the miniature is based.
And remember that saturation and contrast are very important in this step.

Start by applying base colors evenly to the corresponding areas of the thumbnail. Subsequently, use a fine brush or appropriate tools to outline the contours with defined strokes and marked lines, replicating the graphic style of Cel Shading. Another detail that we could apply would be to mark the different color planes with a thin black line, making a clearer separation between them. In this case, we will not use this artistic resource since the greens used already help us understand the volumes well enough.

Follow the video and accompany Basilisk throughout this process that will not leave you indifferent.

''Comic style and cel shading offer a unique and attractive way to bring miniatures to life.''
